Matariki is a Maori's name of a costellation, known in greek as Pleiades. Matariki represents the celebration of the harvest in our life, the generosity and abundance of nature. This project is about an international languange, that of costellations,
a concept that stands for diversity and inclusion.
Matariki is a short mixed-ability dance video produced by Liminal and created in 8 meetings in order to be part of the Touch Compass platform, a leading performing arts organisation run by disability-led people in Aotearoa (New Zealand in Maori), among other creations from around the world. An intensive dance workshop led to this creation, working on movement patterns in duets or as a group. We focused on deconstructing already existed movement patterns that were provided by Touch Compass intending to create a new kinesthetic vocabulary.
With the support of the Ioannis S. Latsis Public Benefit Foundation and the concession of the magnificent terrace of the French Institute of Athens, we managed to connect ourselves with that panoramic, embracing landscape.
