A research on the concept of entropy, or the measure of the disorganization of an isolated system. By deconstructing the African dance and with a special focus in its symbolisms, a closed system of dancers negotiates the concepts of balance, order and chaos.

The performance tries to bring on stage, different aspects of ourselves and of our everyday lives. How do we experience our co-existence with a noisy crowd? Do we really listen to our need for a pause? The performance explores the relation of a group of people who are obliged to keep moving always within a limited space, ever in coherence or in total anarchy.

This is an in-progress project is the result of a series of meetings by a mixed-ability African dance group, as part of the “Liminal Fantasia” workshop, in collaboration with the cultural organization Liminal, where it creates the conditions for equal participation of all in art and culture. Participants had the opportunity to get in touch with the African-Brazilian rhythms and dance of the Orixás, deities directly related to the nature worshiped in Brazil to this day. Inspired by the intense symbolism of the Orixás dance, the dancers have managed to create a new kinetic vocabulary, one that can survive in conditions of absolute organization or disorder.
